The Campus Antifascist Network (CAN) condemns in the strongest possible terms the campaign of slander and harassment directed at Randa Jarrar, an accomplished creative writer and Associate Professor of English at California State University, Fresno, over her personal tweets that call attention to Barbara Bush’s documented racism.  The University Administration’s claim that Professor Jarrar’s comments were “beyond free speech” are de facto violations of her rights to free speech and academic freedom.

CAN has initiated a petition, linked below, that calls on the Fresno State Administration (1) to provide full support for Prof. Jarrar and to affirm its commitment to faculty members’ free speech rights; (2) to cease and desist from any public or non-public efforts to intimidate, silence or otherwise interfere with her professional work; and (3) to extend support to Prof. Jarrar as she is subjected to a racist and sexist smear campaign fomented by the right-wing media.
